Explainer — What is the National Voice to Parliament?
Dr Donna Odegaard AM is a Larrakia woman.
She is CEO of First Nations Broadcasting — Australia’s largest fully Indigenous-owned radio, television and production network — and Co-Chair of the National Co-Design Group.
A new animation explaining the membership and role of the proposed National Voice was played to attendees at an Indigenous Voice webinar hosted recently by the Centre for Social Impact.
The discussion on Indigenous Voice, led by Dr Sadie Heckenberg (Swinburne University of Technology), involved several members of the National Co-Design Group including Co-Chair Dr Donna Odegaard AM, The Hon Jeff Kennett AC, and Dr Emma Lee.
The proposed ‘National Voice’ would be an advisory body, both to the Australian Parliament and the Australian Government. It would also connect with Local and Regional Voices, ensuring it reaches deep into local communities.
A recording of the webinar is now available for viewing [1:23:34].
Information on a second Indigenous Voice webinar is available on the Impact2021 website. It is being held on 4 May 2021, 12.00 pm – 1.30 pm. The confirmed speakers and panellists include the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP, Minister for Indigenous Australians, Emeritus Professor Colleen Hayward AM, Alison Page and Dr Emma Lee.
And further information on Indigenous Voice, and the options available to have your say on the proposals, can be found on the Indigenous Voice website.
